The day before yesterday, Ken Ham, the founder of the "Creation Museum" in Kentucky, USA, asked Bill Nye, "The Science Guy", to debate with him on creationism and evolutionary theory. The debate ended with a stalemate between the two. Bill Nye used science as his ammunition; Ken Ham used underhanded tactics as his. When the debate came to a close, the religious controversy in the United States had sparked again. On the news sites that I usually visit, there were at least four or five pro-Christianity threads on the front page. Atheists and agnostics were denigrated.
As the disputes continue, I would like to ask everyone on this board about his or her stance on religion. I am an atheist, and my stance is that at least the Abrahamic religions should be eliminated, as they cause the most problems in the world. Extremist Muslims, for example, abuse their children and don't mind slaughtering innocent people. And extremist Christians are not averse to whipping their children and subjecting them to psychological trauma. Of course, most adherents to the aforementioned religions have enough common sense to avoid those things, but they are not above indoctrinating their children into believing that, for example, everyone is doomed to hell because two humans were tricked by a talking snake to eat a "forbidden fruit". I mean, where is the sense in this story? Yahweh, the god of the Christians and the Jews, should have known that any sentient being without the ability to make ethical decisions would naturally be curious enough to eat such a fruit. Why would he punish innocent bystanders? (The serpent only lost his legs, yet it should have been punished for it did.)
So, what is your religion, if you are indeed religious? Why do you have this religion? Can you defend it? Please vote in the poll above.
